Weekend at the Park

Ben and I went to a movie in the park on Friday night. The local park and rec department is putting on a family fun night and movie in the park across the street from where we live every other Friday night through the summer. This was something we did when we were dating and loved it (although it was at a different park and put on by a church).

The movie was supposed to start around 8:00pm, but didn't get going until closer to 9:00pm. Ben brought a pitcher of punch and cookies and we settled into our chairs with blankets (as it was getting cold) to watch the film - which ended up being Goonies, one of our favorites!

About thirty minutes into the film, we heard what sounded like rain, followed shortly by the screams of people, leaping from their chairs. Apparently the parks and rec people forgot to turn off the automatic sprinkler system. We were far enough out of the way that it didn't affect us, but about forty other people got wet and packed up and went home. Mental note for next time...don't sit around the edges of the park!

Saturday Ben and I decided to rent a paddle boat at the lake. We had it on our list of things to do and it seemed like a good day to try it. We rented the boat for an hour, which we thought would be way too long, but ended up being about right. At one point we stopped paddling and were just sitting in the boat talking, when all of the sudden our boat plowed into some row boats the park keeps tied up in the middle of the lake. Apparently the wind was blowing hard enough that it caused us to drift into the other boats without us realizing we were even moving.

All in all, it was a fun way to spend the weekend and we got a chance to enjoy the outdoors. Living across the street from the park is a pretty sweet deal!
