Our First Camping Trip

We survived! Our first camping trip together was great. We arrived really late Friday night to our camp site. Thankfully, Ben's mom, grandma, sister (and her husband) had arrived that afternoon and set up our tent for us, so we didn't have to do it in the dark. We pretty much arrived at 10:30pm, unpacked our car, and then went to bed.

We had a great camp site, right near the bathroom. The only problem with being so close to the bathroom was that Tussey Ann, who was on the very first camping trip of her life, growled every three minutes at anyone walking past our campsite. Needless to say, none of us slept very well that first night (that and our tent was positioned nicely on a slope and a bunch of sticks, and we still haven't invested in mats to put under our sleeping bags, and the comforters we brought for padding weren't much help).

The next morning, we removed some of the sticks under our sleeping bag and figured out that if we put our heads at the other end of the tent, it was a little better. Grandma and mom fixed a yummy breakfast of pancakes, sausage, and the best camping coffee ever!!!

We spent the day on Saturday doing a whole lot of nothing. We went to the swimming hole in the afternoon, just in time to find out that someone had jumped off of a rock 30 feet above the water and had landed wrong...so the REACH helicoptor was on its way. It was quite an adventure to be there while the helicopter landed and they transported the injured guy to the helicopter. The wind force from the helicopter was intense and rocks and sand were pelting us.

After that adventure, we played in the water briefly, layed in the sun, and then began the long trek back up the hill from hell to our campsite. I suppose the hill isn't that bad for most people. It was only 0.3 miles, but I have been going through my own challenges physically lately, and had to stop about half a dozen times before making it to the top (and not without some tears...poor Ben).

We played games with the family, had some naps...and did a whole bunch more nothing before dinner.

Saturday night we slept much better. Tussey, who hadn't slept the entire night before, and who was outside ALL day long on Saturday, was exhausted and collapsed as soon as we put her in the tent. It was pretty funny.

Sunday we woke up...had another great breakfast, packed up most of our stuff, and then hung out until around 2pm, when we headed back home.

It was definitely an adventure for Ben and I, being that it was our first time camping together. But, we both had fun. We are looking forward to more camping trips in the future together.

It was nice to be in the outdoors for a few days, but it is nice to be home again too!
