Night and Day

Night and Day

That phrase would pretty much describe Ben and I.

I am your typical night-owl (of course I must admit this is largely due to my mother's influence...or something like that). I am the one who is up at midnight on the computer, or having a late night spree of rearranging furniture or the table centerpiece (not that its some huge endeavor to do that in our house), or tidying up the cushions on the couch...you know, the truly important, life altering decisions.

Ben is the morning person in the family. Tuscany Ann isn't even a morning person. She takes after her mommy (me) and usually will sleep in, right along side me, until I finally crawl out of bed, or she has to go potty so bad she's crossing all four legs. Ben is an I'm-up-at-six-wide-awake-without-coffee-dressed-and-ready-to-go kind of person. He has usually done the dishes, which includes emptying or loading the dishwasher, handwashing whatever can't go in it, cleaning up the kitchen, and emptying the garbages, all before I can pull my tail out of bed by 7am. Now that's just annoying. I'm lucky if, after two cups of coffee, I am even coherent by 7:30am!

Its not that I don't appreciate his energy and enthusiasm in the morning....I just don't have it. There is the occasional day that I actually wake up before he does and can watch him sleep for a minute or two before he opens his eyes. Actually, I think it was only one day.

Hmmm....well at any rate, I have finally come to the conclusion that try as I might to want to become a morning person, and believe me, I'm not giving it that much effort, I just don't think its going to happen. I am perfectly content being the night owl. I think it is when I am at my most awake and creative, which seems ironic as its the time I should be sleeping.

Even now, its 12:36am and Ben has been asleep for probably a good two hours. Me? I have been framing photos of our wedding, cleaning off the dining room table, which seems to be the catch-all in the house, changing the table centerpiece (no really, its not that big of an undertaking...removed a plant, put a candle in its place), emailed some family and friends, and now here I sit...typing away.

I guess its a good thing we are opposites in a few areas, otherwise certain things in our home might never get done. And I suppose its also nice that we each have some time to ourselves.

But at the end of the night, I am ready to crawl into bed with my morning-person-husband, because even though we are night and day, there's no one else I'd rather be with, whether it be night or day!
