Today I woke up, having finally gotten the best night's sleep I've had in about two months. I went about my morning routine and then went to meet a pregnant girlfriend of mine, so that we could go do some walking.
I picked her up and as we were driving to our walking destination, all of the sudden, the truck in front of us slams on his brakes. I barely had enough time to hit my breaks and come to a stop to avoid rear-ending him. Then, before I had time to react, he throws his truck in reverse, looks in his rear-view mirror and backs into the front of my car.
He had stopped his truck about thirty feet from the car in front of him, which was stopped at a red light. There were no cars in either of the lanes to the right or left of us, so I have no idea what he was trying to do. If he'd wanted to change lanes, he could have done so without backing up. But all my girlfriend and I had time to do, when we realized he was backing up was to scream "NOooooo" right as he hit us.
Then he pulls forward about 15 feet, at which point I was thinking he was just going to leave, which made me upset. But then he stopped and we both got out of our vehicles. He walks back and says something to the effect that there doesn't look like any damage has been done to either car, making me think he wants to bail and not exchange info. I looked at him and said, "I don't care, I'm pregnant, we are exchanging information!"
So we pulled over out of the street and did just that. He was a little sketchy, making a comment to me that he'd never been in an accident before, and then making a comment to my friend, as I was taking pictures of both cars, that his truck had been hit so many times and never had any damage. ????
After we parted ways, I was shaking and much more concerned about the baby...and my pregnant friend who was in the car with me. I am 32 weeks pregnant and she is 20 weeks.
We both called our doctors and mine got me in today a couple of hours later to check things out. They said the baby is fine and the heartbeat sounded good and it was good that he'd still been active after the accident. They were more concerned about pre-term labor with the accident, but I hadn't had any signs of that. I felt better just going in and hearing the baby's heartbeat.
I'm still a little unsettled, even though I know things are probably fine. But boy, what a morning. I don't know what people are thinking sometimes. This is why I pray for God to protect me, my husband and our baby every morning, and I pray for our cars and safety as we drive as well. I was very thankful that nothing worse happened and that God was watching over me, my friend and both of our babies!
